Title: Same as written in the lab hand out.  Don’t make up your own.  Save your creativity for later.

 

Purpose:  State the objective(s) for this particular experiment.  Get to the point.  You need to be very specific and pertinent to this particular experiment.

 

Hypothesis:  Your educated guess or prediction of this experiment.  Again, you need to be very specific and relevant to the purpose, therefore this experiment.

 

Materials:  List all the items you used such as chemicals, equipments, and glass wares, etc.

 

Procedures: List all the steps you took to complete the experiment.  Think of it as instructions for someone to run the experiment by reading this section.  Describe what and how you did.

 

Data and Observations:  You list all the information you acquired from the experiment, both quantitative (actual numbers) as well as qualitative information (observations such as color change, temperature change, smoke, etc.).  You can present them in tables, diagrams, or other means.

 

Calculations:  This section is used only when an experiment involves any calculations.  Otherwise, this can be omitted.

 

Conclusion:  Describe how you came to a conclusion(s), by relating to your Data and Observations.  Always refer back to your hypothesis.

Does your conclusion support your hypothesis? You need to explain why it does or does not using the information from Data and Observations as debating point.
