MIDTERM REVIEW FOR PARAGRAPHS
THE BIG DEAL

This is a two-part process

MIDTERM REVIEW PARAGRAPH
The first part of the midterm review is a narrative paragraph (check with me if you are in doubt) that you have previous submitted and received a grade of check or check plus.

Your midterm package should contain the following things:

  1. Creation of Draft #1

    1. Pre-writing (freewriting, lists, outlines, questions, clusters)

    2. All drafts

    3. Paragraph plan

      1. 5 topic sentences

      2. Outline of the body of the paragraph

      3. 1 or more concluding sentences

    4. The original Narrative Paragraph that you submitted to me and received a check or check plus mark. You may not submit check minus or unmarked paragraphs.  Your must have a piece with my original comments.  If you do not have a piece with my comments and check, you may not use it.

    5. Using all of this information write a draft.  Use the same title as your earlier piece and add Draft #1.

    6. Make a duplicate copy of this work.

    7. Attach steps A-E in reverse order -- E (draft #1) goes on top, A (pre-writing) on the bottom.

  2. Creation of Draft #2

NOTE FOR THIS PROCESS YOU WILL BE ANNOTATING YOUR DRAFTS AS NOTED IN CHAPTER 8 ON THE DUPLICATE COPY OF YOUR WORK (SEE PART I, STEP F).

    1. Revise for unity, coherence and detail.

    2. Edit for grammar, spelling and punctuation.

    3. Other annotations include

      1. Ask questions (p.27).  Have you fully, precisely and concretely accounted for all the answers to this questions?

      2. Add at least three transitions (Ch. 10).

      3. Verify that your work is in correct time order.  Where is this reflected in your work?

      4. Add all necessary details.

      5. Add a new interesting title.

    4. Include the narrative paragraph checklist.  It is in your book in Chapter 10.  Make sure that you have fully reviewed it.

    5. Complete the postwrite form.

    6. Review and apply my comments.

    7. Using all of this information write a revise and edited draft.  Use the new title and add Draft #2.

    8. Attach steps A-G in reverse order -- G (Draft #2) goes on top, A (the revised and edited duplicate of Draft #1) on the bottom.

  3. FINALLY THE LAST STEP

  1. Combine step I & II together -- step 2 (Draft #2) goes on top.

  2. Secure all papers with a staple, paper clip, or binder clip.
