Field Placement & Seminar III

Course Description
The purpose of Field Placement & Seminar III - HMNS 2420 is to provide opportunities for students to refine teaching techniques and behavioral strategies. Students will spend six hours weekly in a regular or special education learning environment for an entire semester. Lesson plans will be developed to include instructional objectives and learning outcomes. These lessons will be presented in the learning environment in accordance with Rhode Island Beginning Teacher Standards. Also, Field III students will be required to become familiar with the use of Database research as they investigate a topic in the field of Education and/or Special Education.
Field Placement III students must also attend a one hour weekly seminar. The seminar will address issues relating to Field Placement, Data Base Research, Portfolio Completion, Transfer Options and Career Issues.
HMNS-2420 will also allow students to discover personal skills, talents and attributes that can be developed for a career in the field of Education or Special Education
Prerequisites
Grade C or better in HMNS 1010, HMNS 1220 and HMNS 2320
And Grade C or better in either HMNS
2060 or HMNS 2070

Instructional Methods
Six hours weekly guidance of supervising teacher in an educational setting
One hour weekly seminar to include:
- Lecture
- Bibliographical workshop
- Class discussion
- Individual conferences
Methods of Assessment
- Supervising Teacher Evaluation of in-class performance
- Documentation of three goals
- Field Placement Supervisor Evaluation of Seminar performance
- Completion of an Educational Portfolio
- Completion of a five page research paper in accordance with MLA format
