Learning Outcomes
At the completion of HMNS-1220, Field Placement & Seminar I students
should be able to:
- Exhibit attributes of reliable attendance and promptness
- Provide competent role models for students in the areas of
dress, language and behavior
- Establish rapport with students
- Follow the directives of supervising teacher for behavior
management
- Use appropriate techniques to guide and motivate
- Begin to initiate control of individual students
- Follow teacher’s directives in conducting lessons
- Utilize teaching materials effectively
- Recognize individual learning styles
- Employ appropriate teaching techniques
- Correct and record assessment results
- Assist in room organization and clean-up to enhance a conducive
learning environment
In addition, Field Placement and Seminar I students should be able
to accomplish the following three goals.
- Assume the responsibility of a classroom routine; such as taking
attendance, collecting lunch money, escorting children to the
bathroom, library, bus, etc.
- Read a story to a small or large group
- Oversee a seatwork assignment
Field Placement and Seminar I students will also be expected to
manifest pro-social behavior; such as:
- Work collaboratively and cooperatively with school personnel
- Accept supervision to promote one’s own learning and development
as a professional
- Show a willingness to function as a team member
- Converse with staff members in an acceptable and professional
manner
