Learning Disabilities - HMNS-2170

Course Description

LEARNING DISABILITIES - HMNS-2170- is an introductory course, designed to provide a comprehensive overview of this very complex subject. Since the field of learning disabilities continues to be responsive to advances in research and policy, the course will address how these changes have affected both general and special education. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act will be explained as it applies to eligibility for special services, the referral process, and parental rights.

In addition to weekly class meetings, requirements will include:

• Administration and interpretation of the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test
• Administration and interpretation Wide Range Achievement Test
• Interpretation of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children
• Earning a passing grade on three quizzes
• Successful analysis of a Case Study

Pre-Requisites

Successful completion of Characteristics and Needs of Special Populations – HMNS-2070 - with a grade of C or better is strongly recommended.
