Learning Outcomes
At the completion of HMNS-2100–Child Development -students should be
able to:
- Discuss the major stages of pre-natal development and how they
are affected by environmental influences, such as, drugs, alcohol,
poor health and nutrition
- Recognize the physical, social, emotional, linguistic, and
intellectual characteristics of infants through age eight
- Understand child development and its cultural variations

Differentiate between typical and atypical development
- Compare the key tenets of Child Development Theories -
Maturationist/Behaviorist/Psychoanalytic/Cognitive-Developmental/Sociocultural/Ecological
- Critically analyze theory and research
- Apply connections between child development, guidance of
children and curriculum
- Document and interpret behaviors of children according to
ages and stages expectations
- Evaluate advocacy and public policy related to topics in Child
Development and Education
