Swimming II - Stroke Development

Prerequisite:  PHED 1400 Swimming I

Text and materials:  Goggles, swim suit

Description:  A course for students who have experience in the water and would like to work on stroke development of the key swimming strokes.  Additional water safety skills will be presented.

 

Week              Goals and Objectives

1                            Water Adjustment  

2                           Retrieve objects eyes open, bobbing, rotary breathing

3                           Buoyancy and breath control

4                           Deep water bobbing, bobbing slightly over head,

5                           Bobbing to safety

6                           Water Entry and exit

7                           Jump into deep water from side, dive from side (kneel, stride, standing)

8                           Locomotion

9                           Prone glide, supine glide, coordinate crawl and back crawl,

10                         Elementary backstroke, sculling, breaststroke, backstroke

11                         Turns, Personal Safety

12                                            Reverse direction while swimming, turning at wall (open turns)

13                                            Diving

14                                            Diving from height and diving board

STUDENT EVALUATION

Skills testing will take place during each week.

Written exam will be administered
