Course Description: To understand the principles of computers and information processing. To learn the fundamentals of Microsoft Office 2007: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
Required Text/Materials:
· Skills for Success with Microsoft Office 2007: Townsend
· Introductory Technology in Action, Sixth Edition: Evans, Martin, and Poasty
· Texts include enclosed access code for MYITLAB
· CDs are included with above books and are necessary for course work
· USB Flash drive with at least 512MB of storage capacity
· Earbuds/Earphones.
Examinations: Four exams are scheduled. Any student who misses an exam will be able to make up the exam within one week of the date the student returns to class. If the student did not give prior notice before the exam, the grade on a make-up exam will be reduced by 20%.
Assignments: Assignments are to be submitted on the specified due date. Assignments received after the due date will be subject to a reduction in the grade of up to 30%. Assignments submitted 14 days after the due date will not be graded.
Grading: The value of the 4 Exams is equal to 30% of final grade. The value of Assignments, Exercises amount to 60% of final grade. The value attributed to class attendance, participation and behavior will amount to 10% of final grade.
Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes. A student who misses any class will be responsible for the material covered during that class. NOTE: I reserve the right to lower or raise grades based on subjective values such as attitude, class participation, preparation, and understanding of the material.
Other Information:
Students must remember to DO YOUR OWN WORK. Working together in the lab is permitted, but working “as a team” to complete an assignment and then handing in identical copies of the same assignment will not be tolerated.
NO CELL PHONES, PAGERS, EMAILING, INSTANT MESSAGING, TEXTING, IPODS, etc., ARE PERMITTED DURING CLASS. These types of devices will distract other students. These and other devices must be silenced or muted while in class.
This syllabus may be subject to change due to time constraints and other circumstances. Any changes will be noted in class.
