Student Instructions for Logging in to WebCT for the First Time

If you have never logged into WebCT before, follow these directions to set up your account.
(Note:
If you have created a WebCT account in the past you will be able to use that existing
account to add the new courses for this semester. If you already have an account, skip to the
options for adding a course below.


If you have never created an account in WebCT, follow these steps:

1.  Open Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator (note that you must be connected to a
computer that has an Internet connection)

2.  In the Address: or Location: box near the top of the screen, type in the following address:

http://webct.ccri.edu and press the Enter key on your keyboard.

3. Click on Create myWebCT

4.  Fill in your Personal Information in the boxes provided. Remember that all CCRI students have  a free Campus Pipeline e-mail account. You may use this address for the e-mail address. Your  Campus Pipeline e-mail address is yourkbeauchene@ccri.edu  where yourkbeauchene is the user name you were given for your Pipeline account. If you are not sure what your kbeauchene is, you may look it up from the  Campus Pipeline student kbeauchene lookup page.

5. In the Login Information section you are prompted to make up your own WebCT ID and
password. Passwords must be at least 4 characters long and can include numbers, letters or both.

IMPORTANT
: You will be the only one who knows what this WebCT ID and password are, so write this information down immediately. Also WebCT is case sensitive, so also note if you used all capital letters, all lowercase letters or a mix of both. Your best bet is to make your WebCT ID and password the same as your Pipeline kbeauchene and password.

Make sure you remember to put in your special question and answer in case you forget your password in the future. (NOTE: If you did not fill in an e-mail account, do not fill in the
question and answer box.)

6.  Click on the Continue button at the bottom of the window.

7.  Type in the WebCT ID and Password you just created for yourself (remember it is case sensitive.
 Press the Log in button.

Once you've created your account you are now ready to add your course(s) to your account. Choose the option your instructor has identified to add a course:

Adding A Course to A WebCT Account Using Self-Registration

Once you've set up your myWebCT account, you are ready to add your current course(s). When your myWebCT screen opens:

1.  Click on the grey Add course button.

2. Courses are arranged in alphabetical order by course code. Click on the View by category option. Choose the alphabetical range your course code would fall into under. In your case,  you are going to drop down to C-E because this is an English course.

3.  To see the full list of courses in any category, click on the grey Update button.

4.  These courses are all listed in alphabetical order. You will be self-registering for this course, so you will see an icon next to the course title that looks like this: in the Self-registration column. Select your course from the list by clicking on its link. Be sure that you go to Composition I (Beauchene)as there are many other composition courses, and you do not want them.

 

SELF-REGISTRATION

1.  Because you are self-registering for this course, at this next screen, the ONLY thing that you need to do is to click on the word REGISTER.

2.  After you click on the Register button, you should see a screen verifying that you have
successfully added the course to your account. You will have the option to go directly into the courses or to add additional courses.

You have successfully added the course ENGL1010: Composition I (Beauchene) to my WebCT.

At this point,  you can go directly to the course by clicking on--guess what--Go to course.
When you do, you will see the following screen, which is the course homepage.

After this initial setup you will be able to access your course through your main MyWebCT screen.

Logging Into Your MyWebCT Account through your main MyWebCT screen.

Once you have established your own myWebCT account and have added your course, it is easy to log in again.

1.  Open Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator (must be connected to a computer that has an Internet connection). Note: WebCT needs to work with a specific version of Internet Explorer or Netscape. If you want to make sure your version is compatible please see Configuring Your Browser to Work with WebCT 4.1. Note: if you want to use the easy html editor in WebCT you must also have Java running and your Internet Explorer configured properly.See Prepare Your Browser for WebCT for this information. If you need help with these steps please call the Help Desk at 825-1112.

2.  In the Address: or Location: box near the top of the screen, type in the following address:
http://webct.ccri.edu  and press the Enter key on your keyboard

3. Click on Log in to myWebCT

4. Type in the WebCT ID and Password  you created. Click on the grey Log in button at the bottom of the screen.

6.  When your myWebCT screen opens, click on your blue course link listed under Courses to access your course.


Logging Out of WebCT
 

When you are finished working in your course, it is important to Log Out (either Netscape or Internet Explorer) by choosing Log Out from the menu bar.

It is very important to log out completely from Netscape or Internet Explorer since someone else would be able to access your coursework using your name if you leave it open.
