Student Profiles
The following student profiles were developed to provide the student with an overview of the behaviors necessary to succeed in the classroom.
Exceptional Work: “A” students:
| An "A" student will exhibit the following: |
|---|
|
Demonstrate an “excellent” understanding of course material and theories as well as an ability to apply these theories and concepts in case situations and to their own experiences.
|
| Are able to internalize course material and incorporate “new learning” into their own mental models. |
|
Often question theories, their practicality, and their understanding of concepts |
| Are excellent team players and work cooperatively with teammates to achieve team goals |
|
Are able to demonstrate that they have grown and/or changed as a result of “making meaning” of course material |
| Are often intrinsically motivated to learn and grow, rather than being extrinsically motivated with a grade. |
Above Average Work: “B” students:
| A "B" student will exhibit the following: |
|---|
|
Demonstrate an understanding of course material by explaining and answering questions about basic concepts/theories.
|
| Many have some difficulty applying these concepts to case situations and/or their own experiences |
| They often offer opinions on issues rather than identifying and using the relevant concept. |
| Can use a theory or concept in objective questions, but they encounter some difficulty using the “appropriate” concept or theory when addressing a general question or issue. |
| Are team players that most often work cooperatively with teammates to achieve team goals |
| Are usually active in class discussions, but have difficulty demonstrating their ability to apply concepts/theories fully. |
Average Work: “C” students:
| A "C" student will exhibit the following: |
|---|
| Generally work hard and attempt to do what is required to earn a good grade. |
|
Can often recite or recognize important concepts, theories and definitions, but often do not completely understand those concepts.
|
| Often fail to demonstrate any internalization of the concepts or the ability to apply theories to case situations or to their own experiences. |
| While they read the required material, do not study or question it as a means to fully understand it. |
| Often “study” for the test, but cannot explain or use the material beyond the test. |
| Are team players that often have difficulty living up to the expectations of teammates in goal attainment Participate in class discussion in a limited manner, and have difficulty using theories/concepts in their responses |
Below Average Work: “D” students:
| A "D" student will exhibit the following: |
|---|
| Demonstrate limited knowledge of the course material. Often miss questions on tests/exams taken directly from the readings |
| May not make a concerted effort to fully understand the theories/concepts |
| Often do not read or study all the material available. |
| Often do the minimum to complete course requirements |
| Often do not live up to the expectations of team members and will often let others do all the work |
| Often do not participate in class discussion, and when they do, their contribution is of little to no value to the discussion. |
“F” students
While I rarely fail a student, (the student earns his/her grades), an “F” student has demonstrated little effort to learn.
