St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital

The CCRI Knight Leaders have a long relationship with St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.   Mr. Sol Solomon, former advisor of Delta Epsilon Chi at the Warwick Campus is on the Board of Directors at St. Jude’s.  Mr. Solomon asks us each year to help raise needed funds to help find a cure for pediatric cancer.  In years past, we have manned phones, held spaghetti suppers and participated in other activities to assist in this area.

This fall, we donated $500 from the proceeds of our First Annual CCRI Night at Mulligan’s Island.  We will be participating in the local fund raiser, accepting pledges via the telephone scheduled for April.

Robert Carosi SkillsUSA Scholarship Fund

We lost our co-advisor in November 2006.  His dedication and passion for students was evident in everything he did.  He got up at 2:00 am to shop Black Friday specials with us, took us out to dinner, pointed us in the right direction and entertained us.  We are his legacy.

In his memory, we renamed our annual penny social fund raiser to the Bob Carosi Annual Penny Social.  This year, we donated $1000 of our proceeds from the Bob Carosi Annual Penny Social to fund a scholarship in his name.  Although he was a strong supporter of Delta Epsilon Chi, he was equally devoted to SkillsUSA.

Holiday Baskets

Each year we join forces with other student organizations on campus to help those in need around the November and December holidays.  We gather food baskets and gift certificates to distribute to the neediest students at CCRI.  We donated food and gift certificates for two baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas. (See Thank You Note)

This year in addition to the Holiday Baskets, we “adopted” a family.  One of our favorite teachers (Professor Doreen Bramley) shared a very sad story with us about a fellow student and her family’s experience last year.  She had no money to purchase presents for her children, so she wrapped boxes of cereal and cookies for presents. Our members immediately stepped up and “adopted” this family.  We not only solicited gifts from local businesses, but purchased toys and gift certificates for this family.  Professor Bramley was killed suddenly in a car accident two weeks ago.  In her memory we intend to establish this practice as an annual activity.
