Joshua Klemp, Acting State Director for SkillsUSA Rhode Island called the retreat to order at 8:30 am.
The SkillsUSA Trainers walked us through a series of experiential activities to help us identify the skills required for effective leadership.
We began with a few teambuilding exercises designed to demonstrate the importance of building a strong team within our chapter.
We then focused on our own individual leadership style and were asked to identify our strengths and weakness as leaders; establish personal goals to address those weaknesses; speak extemporaneously and demonstrate our non-verbal communication skills through a modified charade activity.
After lunch, Kristen J. Smith, Student Government President (and member of the Knight Leaders) held a workshop on Parliamentary Procedure. Kristen provided a handbook for members to use during the workshop and to retain for future use. JoAnn Warren has additional copies if anyone would like one.
We learned about the history of Parliamentary Procedure and Robert’s Rules and through a video learned about the need for order in our meetings. After the presentation, we each practiced conducting a meeting.
Following the workshop on Parliamentary Procedure we adjourned to the Board of Governor’s Executive Board Room to host our Tribute to Bob Carosi. Some of you may know, Bob passed away in November. He was a true inspiration to those of us who knew him.
At 5:30 pm we escorted invited guests to the Field House to continue our Tribute to Bob and watch the Women’s and Men’s Basketball Games.
