Penalties for absence

No penalty will be assessed for a maximum of 3 excused absences.

excused absence: An absence is excused if the absence is made up during office hours within 1 week of the absence. The student must sign the Reschedule Sheet on the first day back.

If the student fails to schedule a makeup session, the absence will count against the student. The penalties for these absences is listed below.

Unexcused Absences Penalty: Maximum grade attainable in the course

2 90 A

3 80 B

4 70 C

5 60 D

6 50 F

If the student does make up the session, the absence will not count against the student’s final grade. Again, this excused absence policy is good for a maximum of three absences.

The rescheduling policy is only applicable for 3 absences. Each absence above the 3 excused absences will be penalized according to the following schedule:

Excused absences + unexcused absences Maximum grade attainable in the course

3 + 1 80 B

3 + 2 70 C

3 + 3 60 D

3 + 4 50 F

So a student could have up to 5 absences and still get a C in the course.

This is not a testing center. You are expected to be in class to participate in the educational process. You made the commitment to do the following:

1) Attend class

2) Prepare for class by doing all assigned homework

3) Participate in class educational activities for the full class period

So be in class on time and do not leave during class.
