Composition I Assignment Calendar
All papers are to be a minimum of two typed pages.
Paper required during first two-week period: A personal, descriptive narration about some memorable event in your life. Your challenge is to make the experience as vivid as possible for your readers. Be sure to include the five w’s: who, what, where, when, and why.
Paper required during second two-week period: Write a classic five paragraph essay to inform about a subject of interest to you. Use two outside sources and cite them correctly, using MLA style. We will discuss whether in this paper you may use “I” or “you.” Your challenge here is to be interesting, well-organized, informative, and not be too dependent on outside sources.
Paper for third two-week period: Analyze and explain in a balanced way any controversial issue of your choice that interests you. Do not offer your own views. You may use relevant personal experience to explain your choice of topic, and you should consider using correctly cited outside sources. Your challenge here, in addition to using the skills from your first two papers, is not to take sides.
Paper for fourth two-week period: Write a persuasive paper on a controversial issue, using your best arguments, personal experience, and most compelling reasoning to persuade your readers of a specific point of view. Your challenge here is to appeal to people’s heads and hearts and to anticipate main objections to your own views.
Paper for fifth two week period: Free choice. We might, for example - if the class wishes – all watch a movie and then write a review or critique of it.
Paper for sixth two week period: Free choice.
Paper for seventh two-week period: Final paper, a self-evaluation.
You may turn in extra papers any time you wish, but a paper is required at least every two weeks.
