Linux and Wireless Tools
As a student of wireless networking it is important to develop skills with the variety of software applications that are readily available. These applications will assist you in learning basic networking technology, primarily involving TCP/IP and IEEE 802.11 and equipping you with tools that have very practical application for network analysis, design and troubleshooting. Although there are many Microsoft Windows based applications, many are costly and have technical limitations. On the positive side the Windows applications are easy to use and are generally very graphical. The other source of network applications are those developed for the Linux operating system. These applications are generally freeware and address many networking issues, including hacking. For this topic, hacking is a positive activity that allows the detection of network vulnerabilities and the advancement of learning. Many of the Linux applications require command line skills and a basic understanding of the Linux operating system. Anyone interested in advancing their understanding of both wire line and wireless networking is encouraged to invest a reasonable amount of energy learning Linux basics.
