Biography
Mrs. Karakaya has a bachelor’s degree in computer science and an MBA degree from University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Mrs. Karakaya joined CCRI in June 1999 to develop the User Support unit within the department of Information Technology (IT).
As the director of User Support Mrs. Karakaya is in charge of planning and overseeing all technology support activities at CCRI. User Support activities include a comprehensive technology helpdesk, programs to support desktop computing, support for instructional technology, the computer laboratories, electronic classrooms, user training, documentation, and outreach. As one of the directors of IT she is responsible for hiring of User Support employees, establishing and implementing policies, standards and guidelines that govern the planning, management, acquisition, delivery and security of IT assets for technology related projects at the College.
Mrs. Karakaya has worked in the information technology field for more than 20 years, serving public education institutions. Prior to her appointment at CCRI, Mrs. Karakaya worked as Assistant Director of User Support at Bridgewater State College from March 1993 to May 1999, as User Support Specialist at the University of Massachusetts between October 1987 and February 1993, and as a Computer Programmer at Clemson University between August 1984 and February 1987.
Mrs. Karakaya has two journal articles, five refereed proceedings and many conference presentations. She co-chairs the Learning Spaces Committee and is a member of the Academic Advisory Council, Institutional Technology Advisory Committee, Academic Technology Advisory Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Student Success Committee, Adjunct Faculty Advisory Committee.
