Course description   The Chamber Ensemble gives students opportunities to work in small ensembles and/or a chamber orchestra, to develop reading and ensemble techniques in the classical music repertoire.  The Chamber Ensemble performs at the end of the semester, on the student recital and/or on the evening concert given by the music department.  Attendance at scheduled performances constitutes a final and is mandatory. Chamber Ensemble may also perform on campus or in other venues either during class time or at other scheduled class times. These concerts will feature groups which have repertoire ready for performance, and they are an opportunity to serve the College while gaining performance experience in a relaxed atmosphere.

Rules     Be on time, be prepared with your music, and work responsibly in small groups when appropriate. Membership in the Chamber Ensemble automatically makes one a member of the Chamber Ensemble Club.  We elect officers each semester who will be responsible for student government meetings once a month. We also need to complete a community service requirement, which can consist of your own volunteerism or a club effort. Special club events may include master classes, seminars, concerts, and/or field trips. Suggestions are welcome.

Evaluation    Attendance and effort are the two factors used to evaluate students. Because of the nature of chamber music, it is important to attend class regularly. Two unexcused absences per semester are permitted without changing your grade. If there is an illness or emergency you must notify the instructor before class to have an excused absence (see office # or e-mail address above).

Course Objectives: Students will develop reading, musicianship, and ensemble skills, as well as fulfill ensemble requirements for transfer to a Bachelor of Music/Music Education degree.
