Background Soprano Amanda Santo, a CCRI alumnus, is Adjunct Faculty of Classical Voice at The Community College of Rhode Island. Her teaching responsibilities include Opera Workshop, Applied Classical Voice, Voice Class, and Intro to Opera. She has completed advanced diction training in over six languages, and is currently pursuing a degree in Foreign Languages. Her professional memberships include the National Association of Teachers of Singing, National Associations for Music Education, American Choral Directors Association, and The College Music Society. She earned her Masters in Vocal Performance from the Hartt School of Music at The University of Hartford where she twice received talent scholarships. She graduated cum laude from Rhode Island College where she was a recipient of the coveted Rita V. Bicho Scholarship, and was honored as an Outstanding Music Graduate of her class. Her leading roles include Adina in E'lisir d'amore, Yum Yum in The Mikado, and Gianetta in The Gondoliers, Fanchette in Offenbach’s Le Mariage aux Lanternes, and she covered the role of Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro. More recently she appeared as Polly Smitt in Flotow's Martha with Connecticut Concert Opera, Ms. Santo’s repertoire includes many concert and oratorio roles. As a frequent soloist at Beneficent Congregational Church in Providence, she has performed Bach’s Magnificat and Rutter’s Requiem. Other repertoire includes Handel’s Messiah, Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, Bach’s Cantata 140, the Poulenc Gloria, and the Brahms Requiem. In 2002 and again in 2004 she placed 2nd in the Rhode Island Chapter of NATS, and was invited to perform at their 20th Anniversary Gala in Newport, Rhode Island. This summer Ms. Santo was part of the V.O.I.C.Experience Program at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida with legendary baritone Sherrill Milnes. In the Fall she participated in a Role Study Class with The Martina Arroyo Foundation in New York City, and in December travels to Ireland to participate in one of a series of Master Classes with Bernadette Greevy at the Irish Museum of Modern Art. She is a student of soprano Maria Spacagna. |
